"Imagine there's no countries, nothing to live or die for..."

John Lennon’s beautiful lyrics have a lot of meaning and are timeless. We, as world, are far away from reaching peace, that is an obvious statement.

However, one that is not so obvious in my eyes is: “Israel should Have Never Been Created”.

I came across a poll online the other day that asked: “Would the world is better off today if Israel had never formed after World War II? Why?” and what hit me the hardest was the fact that 74% (so far) have voted that world would be better off without the Jewish state.

What? That for me is a very scary thought so I set myself to surf the net a bit and find out what people were saying about that subject, when I came across an article by William Hughes and I was even more scared. Reading things like:

“The land on which the Palestinians had been living for centuries, in peace, with a minority Jewish population, has been gradually transformed into an Apartheid state by the machinations of the Zionist Movement.”

And:

“That Apartheid state, in turn, is today dominated by Israel’s Death-Mayhem-and- Occupation Machine.”

That comes close to putting tears in my eyes. I can understand that in a political aspect stating that Israel should never had existed makes sense and I don’t want to delve in that aspect. But, in a human sense, that thought is absurd. The Jewish people have been through so much and never had a place to call their own. Living their whole lives as a minority in Islamic and catholic countries and having their own “promised” land was overdue.

The Islamic people have their land, their countries. All that the Jewish people have is this little piece of land that they hold dear to their hearts and I am being bias about this. I am an immigrate in Israel and after knowing what the Jewish people have been through, and still be able to say that the world would be better off without Israel, saddens me immensely. Politically I could perhaps agree, but as a Human being, NEVER.

I am glad I could find at least someone that also thinks so here.

I wonder if there would have been peace if Israel had not been created?
There would have been another excuse for another conflict between religions, beliefs or resources.

Larissa, I’ve been living in Israel for more years than you’ve been alive, and the survey results come as no surprise to me. Whatever Israel’s achievments have been, and they have been many, in almost all fields, our public relations has failed miserably.

John Lennon’s song was a dream that will have to wait for human nature to change drastically for anything to even approach the utopia he imagined.

There are reasons that Microsoft, Intel, Motorola and Cisco have their only R&D facilities outside the US in Israel, and those reasons are achievements. Remember that there are NO R&D facilities like that in the entire Arab world.

Israel leads much of the world in science, medicine, technology development, education and agriculture. No matter what some ignorant people might think, the world would be a poorer place without Israel.

I am note being naive in talking about Jonh Lennon’s song... the world needs more dreamers in my eyes... too many people have given up...

it is very true... Israel lacks in PR a lot and that is sad...

It is sad what is happening in that part of the world. I hope that Israel and Syria reach an agreement putting an end to hostilities and that the United States do not attack Iran, otherwise, everything can worsen dramatically in the region and in the world.

Hi Larissa I think I can understand how you feel.. And all that because of something that happened in the past when most of today’s generations were not born. I hope the conflict ends soon and somebody has to compromise.. I wish good luck for your people and for your neighbours..

yeah exactly... I appreciate that, I really do...

I have the same hopes in my heart

I agree that the Imagine lyrics are timeless and beautiful, so lets include the entire quote:
”Imagine there’s no countries, it isn’t hard to do, nothing to kill or die for, and no religion too”.
Religion has proven to divide people just as much as, if not more than, bringing them together. Too many have needlessly died as a result of this contrived division. We are all so much alike, and have so much to share, why do we focus so much on what is different, and why do those differences inspire such hatred? Nobody knows if god exists, let alone what his will is. You’re all almost as much of an atheist as I am, I just take it one god further.

Those who are unable to accept the differences between human kind is only perpetrating the same mistakes from the past.

”Imagine there’s no countries, it isn’t hard to do, nothing to kill or die for, and no religion too”

This bit of insight from the legendary Beatle lost all hope and were losing control too...

I may not be too enlightened about the crises in that region but I do know for a fact that I see reports of bomb blast and suicide bombers and all kinds of hell breaking loose on these beautiful land and its beautiful people all the time... And it breaks my heart because I know I want to see these places and experience their beauty but with the kinda unrest, I know I might never be able to...

We have a similar crisis in Kashmir and i just feel like asking those militants and ”freedom fighters” just one question- even if Pakistan did get Kashmir would they be able to make it a better place?? I mean they can barely take care of the states they already have!!!

And the same question goes for the people in the Israel-Palestine conflict. So many lives have been lost already. But has anyone actually put out a serious plan or agenda on how they are going to make it a better place in the future???
